A fire in your home or office can be one of the most overwhelming experiences of your life. You find yourself standing in the middle of a room or building staring at the cared remains of your personal or professional life. You have no idea what to do next.
Start by taking a deep breath and relaxing for a minute. The fire is over and you can't undo the past. All you can do now is get things back to normal. Despite how bad things may look, it really is not as bad as it seems.
For starters, and most important, you are OK. What you are looking at is property, which for the most part can be replaced or restored. That's not so easy with people.
So, what do you do about the items that were damaged? Start by calling your insurance company. Let them know what happened and start the claims process.
Your next call should be to your local SERVPRO. Our team has unsurpassed expertise in handling fire/smoke damage and restoration. Whatever needs to happen, our team will handle it. We can board up your property (if needed) and start the process of working with your insurance company to create a recovery plan that includes the complete restoration of your property.
There are also a few things you should not do:
· Do not wipe or attempt to clean anything. This will be hard, but you need to leave this to the professionals to prevent further damage
· Do not walk around the property or sit on any furniture that was damaged.
· Do not eat any food or canned goods exposed to heat.
· Do use any medications that were exposed to heat
· Do not turn on any electrical appliances.
While this may all sound a bit overwhelming, everything will be fine. Our team of professionals will work with you and your insurance company to get your life back to normal as quickly as possible.
